It’s that time of year…

So, December approaches. It's that particular time of year which I don't talk about, or think about until at least mid-December, but this year it is a little different. We have decided to give out home-made gift baskets to family and close friends. I have just taken delivery of 72, yes, 72 half-size jars. This weekend will see a kitchen overflowing with chutneys, jams etc. My wife has started making some decorations to include, and we have drawn up a list of things to make and put ...

Ah, weekends!

Weekends in my house are strange occasions. Due to both parties being on second marriages, each weekend is different. This weekend for example, we have the kids. Next week, we won't have any kids! Within the family, and with certain other distinguished parties. Not just anyone gets to try my brownies. Oh no, not just anyone. If I offer you a brownie, it is a sure sign that, "hey, I like you, d'you, ...

A week away, at last!

I have just come back from a week away in Dorset. It's not often I get away. Not often at all. In fact, the last time my wife and I went away was for two days, about 8 years ago! My wife and I stayed at a little cottage in Marnhull, kind of between Shaftesbury and Sherborne. It was a lovely little place, newly renovated and really well thought-out. And the best part it is for two people only! The cottage is owned by Rachel and Pete Orchard. Pete is a builder, and looking at the ...
